The Sonoma County Association of Retired Employees (SCARE) is a California Nonprofit Corporation dedicated to promoting and protecting the welfare and interests of Sonoma County retired employees.
What's Available
Sonoma County offers a variety of health insurance plans to it's retirees - both those under 65 and those who are Medicare eligible. These include Kaiser, Sutter and Western Health Advantage for those under 65 and it offers 3 Medicare plans. It also offers 2 dental plans. These are described in great detail in the 2026-2027 Retiree Benefits Guide.

Choose from our approved Medicare providers:
If covering a spouse, they must also be 65+ for AARP/UnitedHealthcare
If spouse is under 65 and you choose Anthem, they remain on the County Health Plan

You can make changes to your health insurance once a year during Annual Enrollment. You may also change your plan when you qualify for Medicare.

If you qualify for Medicare, available plans include Anthem, Kaiser, and AARP/UnitedHealthcare. Coverage options may vary depending on whether you are also covering a spouse.
SCARE members can access discounted group insurance including dental, vision, legal, identity protection, pet, travel, accident, and hearing insurance. All plans can be enrolled in at any time.
