What Is SCARE?

Our Purpose

The Sonoma County Association of Retired Employees (SCARE) is a nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to promote and protect the welfare and interests of Sonoma County retirees.

SCARE is the only organization dedicated solely to representing all Sonoma County retirees.

How We Work

SCARE works to improve the quality of retirement by:

Scholarships

Each year, SCARE funds five scholarships:

✓    Three scholarships at Santa Rosa Junior College

✓    Two scholarships at Sonoma State University

Available to children or grandchildren of Sonoma County employees or retirees who are members of SCERA.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership Dues

Affordable Monthly Rates

Retired Members:

$5/month

Associate Members (spouses, domestic partners, widows, widowers):

$2.50/month

✓  Dues are deducted directly from your SCERA pension
✓  The SCARE Board of Directors is entirely volunteer-run
✓  Board members receive no compensation
✓  Dues are used only for actual operating costs and advocacy

Step 3 — Mail Application

After You Submit

Once your application is received:

  • The Membership Chair will review your submission
  • You may be contacted if additional information is needed
  • Your membership will be processed through SCERA
