Membership Meeting Presentations

This presentation covered common scam tactics and how retirees can protect themselves. The presentation was comprehensive and very well received.

The American Red Cross provides services locally, nationally, and internationally, including disaster response, biomedical services, and training.

Key facts shared:

  • 90% of donations go directly to services
  • 90% of the workforce is volunteer
  • Provides disaster response, blood services, vaccinations, and training
  • Works closely with local agencies and communities

United Policyholders is a nonprofit organization that helps consumers plan for and recover from disasters and navigate insurance issues.

Retirement & Benefits

If you have questions about your pension check from Sonoma County or you are wondering about the health of our retirement system, you can go to the SCERA website for more information.

This website has all the information on health, dental, and vision insurance benefits available to retirees through the County, including current rates. It has a variety of types of information on your benefits including the last Annual Enrollment Booklet, in case you want to check something in that.

Fraud & Consumer Protection

The Redwood Credit Union (which many retirees use) has a lot of information on different online frauds and scams . Go to the bottom of the page and click on "Tips for Avoiding Scams and Fraud". Anyone can go to this site even if you are not a member of the Credit Union.

A government site that has lots of information on how to protect yourself from online problems with topics like Imposter Scams, Charity Fraud, Identity Theft, Phishing, Health Care Scams, and more.

Provides valuable information on online security, limiting unwanted calls and emails, and recovering from identity theft.
